Working at the GCA

Het Gezondheidscentrum Asielzoekers (GC A) is a nationwide operating healthcare centre with multiple locations, spread across the Netherlands.

The GC A consists of three departments:

  • The Practice line, a kind of ‘information desk' of a large health care centre. All questions by telephone from asylum seekers, GPs, POH A's, other care providers, assistants of the COA and others go via the Practice line. The Practice line is the logistic heart of the GCA. In a case of emergency asylum seekers can also phone the Practice line of the GCA. When necessary, an assistant of the Practice line can call in an interpreter for the consult with the asylum seeker.
  • The Administration department, the ‘Back Office' of the GCA. All questions from GPs concerning the process and the cooperation are dealt with here. Also the scanning and entering of specialists' letters, invoice administration, etc.
  • The GPs, practice assistants and doctor's assistants concerned around all AZCs nationwide. The GCA has entered into agreements with many GPs practices near AZCs concerning the offering of medical care to asylum seekers. Because of these agreements it is possible to offer primary care to asylum seekers. The Praktijkondersteuner Huisartsenzorg Asielzoekers -POH A (Practice Assistant Primary Care Asylum Seekers) supports the GPs. The GCA especially established the position of POH A for this purpose.
